discogs.com is a nice informal reference for its breadth, but its data model leaves much to be desired, and its content is riddled with the same kinds of inaccuracies as other databases where users type in all the info, like freedb.org. For accuracy you really need the power of a devoted trainspotter who has gone to the trouble of producing a comprehensive discography or music catalog... someone like Ernie Longmire or Wolf Kemker, whose resources at http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs and http://kompaktkiste.de, respectively, are fine examples of comprehensive discographies and music cataloging. If any of you obsessive collector types are interested in maintaining such a discography devoted exclusively to Detroit techno artists, or one artist or label in particular, please contact me off-list with your proposal & credentials; I can certainly host such a project at Hyperreal. Or if you already maintain any techno related site (but not a self-promoting DJ site) and just want to host it somewhere relatively free, permanent and free of advertising.. tell me the current URL or send a proposal. -Mike -- http://hyperreal.org/~mike/
