Well, what would be wrong in setting up a mailing list basically discussing the social and political contexts - both historical and contemporary - that the 313-type music scene operates within? I agree with Matt that discussions on this subject are out of bounds for 313, although I have strong (and frequently-expressed, on other mailing lists) opinions about it myself.
So to break the cycle whereby an off-topic thread spins off into a meta-thread with only abstract relevance to 313's subject matter, maybe someone could volunteer to set up and run a mailing list - 313-politics or something - where these discussions could be held?
