That was my understanding too, Mark. I think I'll just keep my seat in the audience and let all who are involved deal with it as they may.
HOWever, I think it's really unfortunate that something that was so beautiful and community oriented in its beginning has turned into a somewhat monster of egos. What does this portray to people on the outside of Detroit, of its music community? I wish those involved who are keeping the festival from progressing could put egos and self claims aside and see that this festival is and always was supposed to be about- showing people that Detroit, with all its bruised reputations, can take this music and turn it into something positive for the city. I believe Derrick and company still have this vision and could do it justice, as Carl did the first year. I really think they have a chance here for a clean slate and to start over from the beginning. To get the festival back to its roots of the first year and completely start over. If Carol is _truely_ for the community as she has said from the beginning in interviews and so forth, then she would relax and wish Derrick, and the city of Detroit the best. d --- "Mark_S._Krüx" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Didn't I read somewhere that May had trademarked > 'DEMF' awhile back, or > something like that?? > > This all sounds a quite strange to me... > > m* > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "::)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "diana potts" > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, January 27, 2003 6:34 PM > Subject: Re: (313) more demf stuff... > > > > she'll also be sponsoring an executive line of > chauffeur-driven DEMF > > signature golf carts. > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "::)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: "diana potts" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; > > <[email protected]> > > Sent: Monday, January 27, 2003 3:25 PM > > Subject: Re: (313) more demf stuff... > > > > > > > "Marvin also claims that last September her > company successfully > reserved > > > Hart Plaza for the next three Memorial Day > weekends for the DEMF. > > > In addition to the festival, she promises that > DEMF Inc. will build a > > world > > > headquarters and a nightclub in Detroit, start > an electronic music > > > foundation, and produce a weekly radio show and > a quarterly newsletter." > > > > > > > > > > > > lol!!!! > > > > > > watch out detroit! > > > > > > -Joe > > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > > From: "diana potts" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; > <[email protected]> > > > Sent: Monday, January 27, 2003 6:09 PM > > > Subject: Re: (313) more demf stuff... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > oi vey. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20030124-044240-4419r > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > A spokesman for DEMF Inc. said that the > company > > > > > will consider seeking an > > > > > injunction against any Memorial Day festival > with > > > > > the DEMF name produced by > > > > > anybody else. > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > While May, Saunderson and Craig will handle > many of > > > > > the artistic decisions for > > > > > the festival, the DEMF's primary point man > will be > > > > > Richard Maher of May's > > > > > Detroit-based Transmat Records.
