Abridged (very) version of the storyline:
Carol fires Craig just days before DEMF '01 kicks off (something over
missed
deadlines, unsigned contracts, yadda yadda yadda).
Carol falls out of favor with core techno artists like May and Saunderson,
who refuse to support DEMF so long as Carol/Pop Culture Media is at the
helm. Carol attempts to save face by organizing an "advisory board" which
includes Juan Atkins and several other notables, but it fails to gain her
much respect from the music community.
Following DEMF 2002, Pop Culture's 3-year contract with the city of Detroit
comes up for renewal to continue producing the festival. Detroit announces
it lost somewhere around $750K for DEMF '02. No major corporate sponsor.
Meanwhile, Derrick May makes a move to copyright the DEMF moniker and then
later wins in his bid for the rights to produce the festival for the city
of
Detroit, after a highly visible and heated battle with Carol /PCM, which
even includes the rights to use Hart Plaza as the venue. Carol/PCM
seemingly wins the battle for the rights to the DEMF name, forcing this
latest turn where May renames the event "Movement 2003."
That's the best I can do for a nutshell. Sorry if I left anything major

that ruins the story. ;)
