little tech question.
I think I may have tightened it to much to begin with? will the record skip
if that is to tight? I tightened it ine whole turn at first, but it skipped
bad so I backed it off to about 1/3 of a turn.

yeah i messed up my tonearm and had to do the same thing.. basically mine got pushed to the right so that it broke past it's little guard.

it messed up the internal balances and made it super heavy

so yeah - i used a screwdriver to bring it back to it's original weight, more or less, but you do have to be very very careful.. otherwise it will be either too heavy, and will get into a rut and/or put excess wear on the record, or if it's too light, welll... that's the problem you had in the first place ... jittery tonearm

better to have it a bit too heavy though, i reckon
