i would consider that kind of stuff "broken beat related" because
it sounds enough like the other stuff that it wouldnt stand out as
being different in a set.

i would also add that strange german faction of people whose stuff
seems to be hit or miss for me like jazzanova (who are almost
always a hit) and that crew of people.
and also also theres the north american crews like recloose,
titonton, john tejada, ayro, john arnold, moonstarr, etc. this
stuff usually makes up a huge portion of my deejay sets.

what i like about it is the fact that it takes as many if not more
influences from other styles as did drum and bass, but its at a
tempo that you can easily mix it with house techno garage electro
etc, as i like to do. the genre is basically as open as music in
general is, it can shape shift and take on or leave certain ideas
and still retain something of a cohesive sound. i do usually
prefer the techno-ish stuff like opaque and titonton to the
semi-cheesy jazz funk stuff, but i like and play it all.
