I spoke with DJ Vadim about Immigration and performing. He said that it costs about $1500 a person for a one year work permit, i.e. what a musician would need in order to tour legally. You can leave the US and come back for more shows for up to a year.
Lots of people come over on tourist visas and play, but if someone has enough of a professional profile, that's no longer possible. Ask Richie Hawtin, for example.
