When I switched over from PAs involving a ton of hardware to just using a laptop a couple of years back, I would constantly get people coming up and asking "where's your records?" To which I'd reply, "I'm playing my own music live." To which they'd reply "yeah, but where's your records." They couldn't fathom that the music I was performing was coming out of the laptop. There was once a guy who was so incredulous (and dumb), that he kept making requests: "can you play something harder? faster?" etc, that a friend of mine who was DJing next (I was the only live PA, the others before and after were DJing) stepped up and said "look buddy, he's playing live off the laptop; leave him alone, he knows what he's doing." He later told me that he was surprised I hadn't punched the guy out because that was the most annoying he had seen a punter in a while.
