FRIDAY 1 AUGUST HONKYTONKS AND WEIRD GEAR ARE proud to present, from Detroit
USA, a live laptop DJ set by Brendan M Gillen (BMG), half of Ectomorph and
Interdimensional Transmissions label head.

Since 1995, Ectomorph (BMG + Erika) have pushed the boundaries of electro
with a string of influential releases for Interdimensional Transmissions and
other distinguished labels, including Ghostly International and
International Deejay Gigolo. Their live sets, which can combine cabaret
along with machine funk, have taken them around the world, including Sonar
and The Love Parade.

BMG's latest obsession of laptop DJing has taken him as far afield as Sao
Paolo, Miami (WMC), Amsterdam and now Australia, delivering a unique set
every time. With skilled misuse of software he blends up to ten sound
sources, creating new tracks out of bits of old tracks, mixed with his own
loops. He reinvents the old and remixes the new, creating a solid new sound
which has amazed even the original programmers. For example, he may combine
a Prince rumbeat, a Loose Joints bassline, a Metro Area melody, all
re-arranged, plus a few of his own loops, to create a completely new track
which fuses new and old seamlessly.

These sets have been gaining him some rave reports, including this one in
the Wire (July 2003): "Gillen borrowed liberally from dance music's past to
provide a tantalizing glimpse of the future."
