hello 313 folks, felt i had to come out of the woodwork to big up old carl a bit, which i guess demonstrates how much i enjoyed myself. seems to have been mostly lukewarm appraisal of this, but personally i reckon it was an absolutely storming set. started off with some lovely old chicago/detroit-sounding tracks, featured a good amount of his own stuff* and had lots of fun surprises that worked really well (i.e. talking heads, throbbing gristle, the whole butlins-style beyonce/michael jackson game at the end). i got the impression of very tightly weaving together tracks from across a big timeframe and (relatively, compared to some djs) big base of music, which is something i love. good, subtle use of effects as well.
[*including tres demented, which, if i remember correctly (which is not that likely) came in for another rather lukewarm response on this list. i find this a bit baffling too. to me it sounds like the most perfectly constructed dance record i've heard in a long time.] the peephouse is a great club, too. and you *need* a garden when it's that hot inside. oh yeah, might as well mention that the superconductor residents are top notch as well. robin
