I'm so sick of hearing that piracy is the reason.
How about deregulation of radio station ownership causing one or two
companies to own most of the bandwidth in a given city? How about the
monopoly that certain companies have on concert venues that also own radio
stations so that you only get a chance to hear on the radio and see in
concert those artists the companies want to promote?
What about the artificially inflated price of CDs when we all know what the
cost of manufacturing really is?
I'm really sick of the majors blaming the consumers of music for their
curiosity - no wonder people aren't buying anything
I get people asking me practically everyday what is new in music - people
are _starved_ for new music but they don't buy because they don't know what
to buy.
They know they don't like what they hear on the radio but they don't know
what else to buy because they've never heard of most of the bands they see
in the bins. They don't buy what the majors are telling them to but they
also aren't buying any independents because they don't want to give up the
$15-22 dollars for a CD they might hate. I don't blame them - the major
music industry has created this monster of a problem and it's hurting
everyone except the CEOs.
F*ck the majors
end of rant
