Other things I'm liking lately on the techno-ey side of late, not necessarily brand new though:

I:Cube - 3 on Versatile - exquisite production values, french style high tech funk. love the track that samples 'no way back' for a percussion loop. Varied, the slow/weird cuts are nice too. And it's all 2xLP pressed at 45rpm, ka-pow! Can Versatile do no wrong? Okay let me get greedy: how about a new Chateau Flight LP ???.. I've about worn my copy of Puzzle down to nothingness.

John Arnold - neighborhood science (ubiquity) - Jac-Jac-Jack the rhodes! 2xLP from detroit's favorite new schooler, collaborations with Amp Fiddler and red hot keysman Ayro make this a fresh new addition to the funky techno spectrum. But I can't seem to get off the track "We're not".. phew ! caught their live collaboration at Detroit Contemporary afterparty at Movement 03 ... they captured the 'live-ness' of the arranging in the recording, hard to do. See him and Ayro live, it's nutty!

Aaroy Dee - Goddess / Razor (M>O>S) - debut release on new M>O>S label after Aroy Dee has turned in quality tunes on Rush Hour and Delsin.. among others. Long 2-tracker, A-side is dreamy and uplifting, gentle housey electronics. Flip to the b-side for techno soul deepness with a plodding beat and great side-sticks. Stark percussion meets warm low tones all at once, nicely arranged and you just want it to go on and on into the night. Promising maiden voyage for this label.

Headspace 2003 sampler - all 4 tracks are strong! How often does that happen? I esp. like the Rei Loci and Arne Weinberg contributions, Fabrice Lig turns in a spacey tech-funker too. Overall a nice assortment, does this mean we get a full 12" now from each of them Tom? :)

Technoir - Chord Control EP (again Weinberg in top form, the rising star has got deep emotive complexity nailed). Also feat. "america's toughest 909 tamer" Sean Rudiman. His short little last cut on there "get in the check" is a beautiful piece of techno, it's begging to be lengthened out with some kickdrum and and it could be a monster floor cut along the lines of Groove La Chord. How about a "extended dance remix" of that one Sean?? Seriously that would be red hot.

East Island vs. The moderator - new 6-tracker on DownLow, don't be fooled though the pressing and cutting is loud as hell, i was amazed at sound quality and fatness for this much music. Warm melodic techno somewhere between classic Eevo Lute sounds, Detroit and Stasis as reference points. Even a slower techno groover on the b-side with tempo around 118-120, very nice.

Paul St. Hilaire & Rene Lowe - "Faith" on False Tuned -- it's like if there was a Quadrant Dub III on Basic Channel, this would be it. essential deep berlin dub electronics... Play the vocal! Wait, if this is FT-003, what were the previous 2 like? I love this one...

Re-re-discovery of the week: Rhythim is Rhythim: "Emanon" on Biorhythms LP... Mayday doing bleep.. did this appear anywhere else before the comp? It must have... right? Got to find a better pressing on a 12" or something, I love this track!

Rhythm & Sound - The Versions CD.... absolutely essential deep expansive dub. Listening to this after a stressful day is like floating in a dark salt tank, it just melts you right down into deep space. Nice to have them all in one place so you don't have to get up and keep switching your Burial Mix 10"s... rewards close listening every time. You can get lost in these tracks, you really can...

one more deep electronic dub kind of low-tempo techno.. 12" -- check out Echocord 05, the Mikkel Metal: remix ep part 1 w/ contributions from Jan Jelinek, Dubtractor, and Lowfour.... dubbed out electronics via this Copenhagen label, if you like Din, Pole, Maus & Stolle and the Monolake type of music, you'll probably dig this. Apparently the latest Echocord (#6 ?) is by the DeepChord crew, anyone heard it?

peace
