the documentary seems a little inaccurate, amnesic and slanted. the
dominant idea in australia seems to be that house/techno came to australia
via england and the 'summer of love'. but prior to 1988 sydney had a large
and very well developed gay dance scene that looked to the gay communities
of new york and san fransisco and held paradise garage to be centre of the
universe. people in their thousands were taking mda and dancing to chicago
tracks way before a bunch of opportunistic english decided to come and
enlighten us.
not to mention there were a bunch of us sitting around in squats making
electronic music/throwing parties from the early 80s onwards. 1988 was
just when it all went mainstream youth culture, it wasn't the beginning.
