what about artists supporting by buying their _records_ ?

that's a good point...personally i buy huge amounts of vinyl anyway and it's gonna take a lot for me to switch to just relying on downloaded stuff (free or not)...

the sound quality is also something that is important. i'm not sure i'd just buy mp3s from a site unless they were say above 256k encoded. in fact i'd rather switch to buying cds (or AIFF/WAV over the net)...

i've got nowt against mp3 but to me it's just replced analogue tape, ok for mixes and stuff but for buying? i'd never touch an analogue tape for that.
