Subject: Re: (313) Derrick May quote and the Death of Techno
I can't post to the list so this email is going to just you so maybe if
you think it is relevent you can post to the list for me?
I think it may be one of two things that lead Derrick May to announce
the death of techno.
1) Remember when Russel Simmons announced the end of the word "Def?"
That is what this reminds me of. I almost think that Russel and
Derrick feel a sort of control over their fans and can tell them what
and what not to think. They are dillusional in my opinion. You get
enough people telling you that you are an innovator and it goes to your
head I suppose... =)
2) He could be just very pessimistic about the whole thing and think
that since techno has evolved over the past ten years (how could it
not???) and he hasn't kept up, he may feel like if he's going down he's
taking the whole thing with him? Does this make sense? No it does
not. But does it make sense to say that techno is dead when there are
about a good 100,000 artists out there making and spinning it every
day? Hell no!!! =)
Just my 2 cents of course. I hope that if I ever make it anywhere with
techno music, I stay happy with my life and enjoy it as much as it
seems like I will when I get there...
