I wouldn't call Rephlex/Kompakt 'poppier techno', though I can see how 
Kompakt's sound might have a broader appeal

Yeah, it's obviously a matter of taste, but I'd be a lot more
impressed (and pleased) if you said 1400 people went to a Brooklyn
warehouse to see Oliver Ho and Regis. It doesn't shock me if poppier
techno draws a larger crowd. I mean, that's why it's called "pop
music," right?
