Bryan and I fist met through Steve Lammers (and
another MSU dork, Ish) at MSU's radio station during
the Mechanical Pulse in '95/96. Countless Fridays were
spent there. He and Lammers would exchange music, talk
and horseplay while I sat on the dirty, gum covered
carpet and just listened.and learned. When the radio
station moved to its current location- we did the
same. We gathered there like it was our clubhouse.
Like our oasis of sanity via music and the power of
college radio.
I remember Bryan and I often clashed heads. He had a
slick tongue- and so did I. He,I,Scott Pruett and
Steve Lammers would hang out, dork out and
occasionally piss eachother off.all in good fun. On
special occasions Bill would pop in while down from
going to school up north.
These things are what I remember of Bryan. The faded
Tshirt worn under a faded button down and the same
pants. The shoes that turned in and the teeth that
gleemed every time he chuckled. His light colored
eyes.
His fondness for the obscure and the complete obvious.
I attended one of the first meetings of a club, The
Ambient Friends Network, formed for Ambient dork
heads. If I remember correctly it was at Bill's house.
The ritual would be to gather, listen to records and
share music. Fellow dorks would gather the same night
in diff't cities. When's the last time anyone did that?
I remember feeling completely intimidated by Bryan at
some points. I knew his game was always one step
ahead. His music knowledge waiting to see where mine
went next.
I didn't know Bryan was sick until today. Death is
never fair. That's why it wins most of the time. It is
hope's arch nemesis.

At times like this, those of us that have moved away
find it most difficult to be far. Please know that all
of us wish, with the deepest love of the community
that created us, that we could be there right now to
grieve and reflect with loved ones.our friends.the
city.

let's do it again sometime soon.
