i don't know what's more disappointing- the fact that he couldn't decide
between playing to the cheesedicks and playing like the laurent we know
and love (and ultimately opting for the cheesedicks, being that they were
in overwhelming attendence), or the fact that you, 313, were right. his
set friday night was uninspired, predictable (due to previous talk on here
of his dropping out of space, nirvana, white stripes, funky breaks, etc.),
and in some parts downright crappy. he's usually so good at walking he
fine line between techno and trance-- fri. night he stumbled right into
the cheesy side. maybe he was drunk. touch your nose, laurent, and then
recite the alphabet backwards. in any case, out of the 4 or so hours that
he played, an added total of only about an hour and a half wound up
sounding like i was sure it would. and that's adding up all the times he
went back and forth between sounding cheesy and sounding like laurent
(which came in 30min snippets). being one of the people that was
convinced he could do no wrong, i sure was let down. what happen??? guess i'll go back to listening to the detroit disc of his box set and
trying to relive the magic that was that night.....

honestly it was my first garnier experience and i thought he was great. my only complaint was the sound system at sound-bar. It was poor and he was really pushing it. I thought he played some really nice deep and melodic techno. The first hour I dont think I heard a single record from this decade. It was great to finally hear Emotion Content. Windchime sounded amazing and I think its going to get a lot of play in the course of the next few months.

I had decided on Friday to go and I was lucky enough to find a cheap flight from Miami and I had the time of my life. Here's some of the songs I was able to remember him playing add some more if you remember.

nirvana - lithium
white stripes - 7 nation army
new order - confusion (koma and bones mix)
mad mike and perception - windchime
dj rolando - aguila
funk d'void - emotional content
prodigy - out of space
anthony rother - body talk?
nitzerebb - murderous (phil kieran mix)
marshall jefferson - move your body
laurent garnier - the man with the red face

I also heard a few things off his excess luggage cd as well that was nice to be able to hear those records out as well. I just hope that next time he comes a little closer to home or that Miami wakes up and books him at a nice venue. I think he would be great here since he crosses genre's so well. I thought he was relentless techno for the most part and he was always really energetic behind the turntables.

Looking forward to Movement 2004.

Regards,
Ramon
