Afterparties: the claude young party was ok. Musically it was great, claude played a really good and very long set with rudiman doing keyboards over top (i could have done without that, personally). The venue disappointed though - horribly weak sound, weird layout, a bathroom line around the block - at least the outdoor patio was cool. The crowd wasnt so great either - NO ONE DANCED - just people 10 deep crowded around claude staring at him. i felt like i was at some sort of seminar rather than a nightclub. who stole the fun?
tried to go to the may, pullen, k, krivit afterparty, but arrived to find they had a no camera policy and wouldnt even let you check them. as a trip back to the hotel would have set us back ages and stuck us in a rather long line we hopped over to the tronic party at the works instead. christian smith blew the place apart, but frankly i spent most of the night by the bar getting drunk, so my impressions are a bit skewed. Festival: only made it sunday, but had a blast. I saw: mike huckaby - old school, old school, old school. old school detroit techno, old school euro techno, old school chicago house. hey went back, way back, back in the daaaaay. joris voorn - pretty boy plays techno. not my favorite, but ok orlando voorn - rocked it. best, most charismatic hard techno set i've heard in ages - at least since technasia at tronic about a year ago. ron trent- did his usual deeeeeep afro thing to a packed tent of people escaping the rain francois k - wow. all i can think to say is that it was a once in a lifetime set. if you've heard his sonar set, you have an idea of the style, but this was just genius. Stuff I missed but heard about: heard nothing but raves about TP, Mike Grant, and Ken Ishii (at tronic 1). the mike dearborn party was universally described as a crackden.
