I've heard him play several times - even witnessed his nose mixing - but it
just doesn't move me - as I said, I want to hear a record properly without
loads of crap going on on top of it - maybe if I was a DJ, I would feel
differently

it's just the way he mixes, if you know or have ever talked to claude
it's not 'showing off' it's just the way he chooses to combine techno
records. Personally I love it. He can take and inject the funk back
into techno by the way he combines it and re-arranges constantly.
Hearing a track out, and hearing Claude play the same track out is like
night and day. Most uptempo techno is (still, i think) intended to be
a DJ's medium... and claude is one of the few at the vanguard of that
art IMHO... and has been for many years.

If you've never seen him, there's a couple (tiny & dark) quicktime
moves i did on this page on Reverb @ Hyperreal many years ago that are
but a glimpse into his freestyle/freeform style, with audio. (words by
dan sicko, photos & video by me)

if you like that, check out the rest of the features to, there's some
clips and stories about other detroity/techno things too.

peace
