Electron..... god I can't even type that word. Yeah robin, it's aweful and
it was a term thrown around - actually still thrown around - by people in
the US who think Dave Clarke is Dick's brother. It's a word used to market
all forms of electronic music whether you could dance to it or not. I see
it as a way of cashing in on a form of music that had been in full swing
but pretty much ignored completely by the mainstream. Suddenly they
couldn't ignore it anymore, had no clue what any of it was about, didn't
have time or even the interest in properly educating the public, saw big
dollar signs, called it electroni....electron.....sorry that's about as
much of that word as I can utter.
In the US it could mean the Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, Tortoise, Moby,
Thievery Corporation, FatboySlim, or Paul Oakenfoldykweed. Don't ask about
Detroit stuff because nobody knows it exists. Generally speaking.
I'm not sure about Electric as a genre - that just seems to describe your
power source/whether you're amplified or not. Even if you use a microphone
then technically you're electric.
it's still all disco

euwww...i've always hated the term electronica (it's more of a US term
tho right?) almost as bad as IDM.
