Subject: Re: (313) Laptop performances
i think what is confusing this discussion is that on one hand we're
talking about digital djs and the other digital live acts.
typically a live act has a 'set' that they perform. so a band is not
that much different to a live laptop performer in that they are both
prescriptive in the way the music is presented.
a dj on the other hand should (i say 'should' as not all djs are like
this) be responding to the reaction on the dancefloor and tailoring the
music played accordingly as well as being prescriptive (it's the
interaction that makes djing interesting). someone who knows what they
are doing with, say, Ableton Live plays literally live with the
software and the only precooked thing is perhaps the "dj's" own edits
or reworks.
ok i'm sure most listmembers are bored of this now so i'll shut up.
