i'm also a great fan of the uplifting qualities of melancholy music. i
thought nietzsche captured it nicely when he spoke of the  ability to "look
into the abyss of woe and affirm it with the joy of eternity."

What's is it about listening to melancholy music that makes me feel better
than I have been?

I tend to go for stuff like Fennesz, Minotaur Shock, Isan, Opiate, David
Sylvian, Ogurusu Norihide, and such when I'm feeling blue.
