Personally getting bored of the noodle.. bring back the oomph....

I like some if but i DEFINITELY know what you mean... i wasn't even all
that crazy about some of the Norma Jean Bell sax here and there on some
of theolder stuff. I mean, sure, some worked and was intrinsic to the
track, but some sounded tacked on. kind of related topic: some of
theo's natual aspirations stuff I love, some just sounds like outtakes.
I think kdj and theo are now kind of experimenting with how far they
can go into avant jazz... and less and less structure, which, sure, is
necessary for them artistically, but i don't want it at the expense of
all the abstract dancefloor whomp-whomp, throwing your head back
brilliance that brought them their critical acclaim in the first place.
Or if the mood pieces are just that, then i don't necessarily need to
hear 12 musicians and vocalists in a room feeling each other out
musically with the record button held down. I mean experimentation is
expected and loved, provided it actually SOUNDS GOOD when it's done.
:)
i still like their own solo productions, when it's just their own
ideas... stripped down and raw (think about tracks like Ebonics, Dusty
Cabinets, Shadow Dancing, Don't Be Misled, Forevernevermore, J.A.N...)
these are basically simple tracks but oooh so effective, raw and
undiluted emotion. OK I like 3 Charis tracks too, but not always 12
Chairs for 20 minutes if ya know what i mean.
