agree with all that, but isn't where you live a pretty simple equation?
somewhere you have friends, can support yourself, and feel good living. why
should people remain in detroit if they are miserable there? from all i hear
berlin is a great place to live. you can get apartments in former east berlin
for under $200/mo, i mean...pretty hard to resist
uhh i was just kidding about the 313 party being hyped btw. hehe haha
i love all my pikey 313 friends.
it would be cool to have a massive 313 party that everyone could come to but
beggars cant be choosers or something like that

Hi,
I live in Chicago, I just want to say I want to move to Berlin SO BAD. However,
Robert, I think Mr. TDC jr has a point. I mean, in some ultimate sense, I feel
like I am making Chicago a better place by sticking to my guns and trying to
play out and expose people to the music that I love. It just means I have to
be willing to do it for free... I basically use my crap office job (where I am
right now) to pay for my expensive techno hobby. Sadly, I once made a living
playing music, but I had to whore myself out playing jazz piano for Carnival
Cruise Lines (bringing you such hits as Copa Cabana, In The Mood, and YMCA).
However, I think there may be a deeper problem in the USA, it is not just
techno but all artistic experimentation that is unsupported. I know people
outside of techno also have it pretty rough here, as artistic things are just
not important or supported by the general populace. Actually, anybody who gets
to make a living only creating some kind of art is pretty priveleged, as there
are loads of people who do have the talent and creativity but can't or don't
know how to make things work financially.

That's a very precious and judgmental point of view.
So people should keep it real by trying to turn Boring, Oregon into Techno City?
Or go somewhere where their talents might be appreciated?

everyone's always eager to "get to where things are hot" or
whatever. this is of course another reason i really admire people
like KDJ and mad mike. why can they sell records everywhere and
still be satisfied in detroit when 75% of the other cats move
away? these new inventions called the internet and plane travel
make lots of things possible without moving. maybe these people
have no attatchment to their families. i know that i could never
leave my family behind just because i wanted to move to berlin or
whatever other nonsense people are onto. but thats even beside the
point. staying in a smaller city with a small scene actually
requires work, whereas moving to a giant city filled with people
who already did all the work so you can get more deejay gigs is
the easy way out. big suprise there.
