Couple others I thought of are:

Sunday Brunch - Things You Said - Svek
Roy Davis Jr - Gabrielle - Large (probably know this one though)

It's the big lung disco house stuff that I'm trying to avoid for the most
part.

I don't find that fact that they can sing really loudly to mean that it's
really deep and personal. I'm looking more in the Larry Heard vein.
Quiet and more introspective not brash and wailing disco divas singing the
Nth song about someone who has left them

but thanks for the suggestion just the same

looking for some really beautiful house that talks about either loss/real
heartache
not this "I had you but now you're gone why don't you come back" type of
dime a dozen house tunes
but really thoughtful but aching house or whatever type of dance music

any suggestions - your favorites?

I'm listening to Ladyvipb (Maurice Fulton) Stories of a Broken Heart and
Recovering
there seems to be this kind of feeling on this - deeply personal addressing
of emotional pain
just got me thinking
