Please forgive me if I flaked and simply did not see this mentioned here before but I don't recall this being mentioned. This is hugely disappointing because from what I know, EFA were one of the big distributors that Caroline (in the USA) dealt with to get these releases stateside. Does anyone have an update on the distribution of some of the labels mentioned?
Thanks. Leslie ------------------------ http://www.xpander.nl/index.cfm?NewsID=1771 DISTRIBUTOR EFA MEDIEN BANKRUPT After 22 years of supplying Europe with various styles of music, the curtain has finally fallen on EFA Medien, Germany's largest distributor of electronic music. Having filed for bankruptcy at the start of the year, EFA, which stands for "Energy For All", tried to avoid the administrators by downsizing their staff, restructuring their distribution methods and channels and negotiating with possible investigators. Unfortunately, none of these came to fruition. EFA was the distributor for many upfront labels that have existed for many years now including Perlon, Kanzleramt, Playhouse, Tresor, Force Inc, Shitkatapult, Freude-am-Tanzen, and Pokerflat to name but a few. EFA had five in-house labels too. "It's true, EFA Medien have filed for bankruptcy and unfortunately our own labels E:Motion, Hear 2 Hear, ESC, Clearspot and Secret Life are in trouble too. We don't know what will happen next yet. We just have to wait", said an EFA Medien employee. Gigolo Records, who used EFA Medien as their main distributor, are concerned about the effect this bankruptcy will have on other, smaller labels but are currently negotiating with other distributors themselves. Kanzleramt have already announced that they will use Roughtrade and Neutron to distribute their vinyl and CD's in the future, while Superstition "got lucky" by changing distributors last year. Xpander whishes all the best to all those involved! (03/12/04)
