amazing. already the decent conversation flows instead of the
typical flamebait.

>> to be honest, I'd have to say chicago. there was so much
interaction in the early days between the chi-town and detroit
heads, as well as the oft spoken about mutual admiration/respect
held for each city by the other in the early days.

i agree with chicago as the choice, and i think yussel actually
articulated all the reasons in the best manner so far. IMO the
similarities in chicago house and detroit techno are far greater
than their differences.

for city #3 id have to say its either london or berlin. while
berlin does have quite an interesting history, especially in
reguard to detroit artists and influences, london was the middle
ground to getting there. without british journalism, would the
chicago and detroit scenes be what they are today?

i also agree that techno has been pretty heavily misrepresented by
looped banger producers, but thats certainly not strictly a berlin
and stockholm thing. i can think of many people still pushing that
kind of thing in the uk and the us as well as many other countries
(check the global techno email list for more info, though not all
of those cats are strictly into looped bangers...).

in my mind, detroit and chicago are like the meccas, while london
and berlin are the places that have done the most with the music
since its invention outside of the mecca cities.....
