Hold on a god darned minute - did you really only like one track
on the whole thing.....seriously?

yeah i dont even know what to say about that. theres plenty of
good cuts on there.

I'm with Maarten on this one actually.. the Theo cut I do like and just a couple of the others are okay, but not enough to spring for an import $$$ triple pack. I'll find it used someday cheaper. ;) I have most the 12-inch singles though, and play them often, I like the series.

about my comments on Theo's sound quality earlier... just to clarify -- believe me i'm a huge huge fan, i think I have damn near every Sound Signature record and CD.. I've seen him DJ enough times to lose count, and I usually like the Low-Fi aesthetic and grimey production he brings to the table, (and KDJ for that matter, though I like the attention to production details in some of the latest Peacefrog LPs, cleaner, yet still just as deep).. this low-fi sound "goes with" the kind of dark detroit/chicago basement/club/bar laid back sweatbox or smokehead places I hear (and think are appropriate for hearing) in his music, not some high style trendy europlace with a squeaky clean club PA system. I guess I associate his 'sound' with a feeling and a visual kind of imprint too. That may or may not be fair.. ha. MOST of the time I am into the low-fi thing in his sounds, in tracks like Lights Down Low or Dance of the Drunken Drums or Music, Moonlight and You, or even Dellwood, those are some of my favorites.. Anyyway my comments were more about the sound quality on the Ugly Edits, which if the crappier/quieter/muddier sound is in fact intentional with those, it IMHO doesn't add much to the edit, and I don't think they're like AMAZING re-edits to begin with, frankly, with some notable exceptions. But they're his vision of what he wanted with the songs, and edits are very personal because the DJ is doing to the track what he/she sort of always wanted to do to the track: emphasize the parts they want to accentuate, remove what doesn't work for them. Then there's the point of making them sound good to play with.. mastering & pressing issues.

I also think the Ugly Edits shot up in popularity and sold out immediately IN PART because they are a Theo limited/rare thing, not because each and everyone is so brilliant on it's own merits, but that's another arguement. :)

Also re: sound quality -- I know Theo brings sometimes crappy mixers and isolators to DJ gigs to kind of rough up the sound a bit, make it raw.. so there's a method to his madness, but I realize it's not for everybody.. like the kickdrums just get destroyed into a punchy blob. Producers who know what it's like to spend a day or three getting a kickdrum sound to sound "just so" great.. i can understand this intentional sound destruction drives them crazy.

peace
