>No one really seems to want to talk about him Well that didn't last! Lots of posts on this - over viewing them what seems to come out is that while some people are praising him:
>Carl can play anything and basically will, even sometimes pushing well past where the crowd will go. I'm not always thrilled with his playing but it's always interesting. >This is a man who plays Radiohead and Beyonce... kinda defies categories. and others who've seen him the odd time aren't thrilled, what many are picking up on is his inconsistency. I'd back this up 100% - until very recently I would have put him among my favourite DJs having seen him play 4 times and liked it each time, the 2 most enjoyable being in 1999 and 2000 when he played the Electric Chair here in Manchester, first time playing all sorts of stuff, allaying the fears of disco heads down there about hearing a techno DJ, then the second time slaying them when their guard was down with loads of ace electronic business. I didn't see him again until 2003 at Superconductor when he played some good techno plus Beyonce which is all good as far as I'm concerned! I even went to Fabric last year to see him and enjoyed that too, he was playing all the remixes he had knocking around then and some of the stuff you might expect to hear in a fairly commercial club but it was OK (I want to say I enjoyed Fabric too as it took a bit of a kicking in some recent posts, OK it's about the money and not all who go there are dedicated to the finer points of club culture but it's impressive, clean and has good sound, maybe as someone said the key is to go with friends). A month ago I went to Superconductor again to see C2 and I've got to say I was very disappointed. He played a mixture of some very average music along with Jaguar, Strings etc. and didn't do it well. Nothing was way off, just nothing was that good, not the mixing, the tunes or the order in which they were played. I couldn't believe it was the same DJ I'd seen before and felt embarrassed as I'd brought a friend (house and disco head) and told him how good he'd be - my friend thought he was poor. I'd heard several people say they'd seen him and he was rubbish before but I thought they were just knocking someone who was big ('cos people do that y'know!) but I guess he must just be inconsistent to the point where the word is an understatement!
