i remember this one pa i did a few years back where i was the last
on a long bill (so it was like 7am-ish by the time i finished). i played
for about 90 minutes (starting around 5:30am), starting out with techno and mellowing it
out (quite well, imo) to end the night. there were just a few kids
there (not being condescending in my terminology, they were
teenagers) and i was quite proud of how i had ended the night
in a satisfactory way. well, wouldn't you know it, as i started
packing up my gear, one of the kids ran up to me, pupils showing
serious intake and ingestion had occured, and started pogoing
in front of me saying loudly: "play something fast, man, c'mon,
play something fast!" it was a surreal moment. guess ya had
to be there, but i'm sure many others have had that experience
of feeling like you've done a proper job mellowing things out
after a long long night and you get that sort of thing where a
couple just don't get what you were doing. andrew
