>>> octave live "live band performance": is it me, or was the only band up there made by Akai? >>> I saw them in dublin late last year and thought exactly the same thing. Absolutely no variation from the recorded tracks, and it could have been very easily done as they had enough gear up there to recreate the music. Also no continuation between tracks. This is electronic music, run-ins and transitions to the next track are easily accomplished. I can understand if it were a full live band setup like los hermanos, then its fine to have a pause between each track, in the spirit of a more typical band, but a gear/mixer/laptop set needs some sort of flow between at least some of the tracks IMHO. Otherwise its a case of just waiting for a little applause and then skipping on to the next track on cd/dat/sampler whatever. I could appreciate that they were recreating their repertoire with all the original gear etc, playing live keys over it, but it just sounded tired and exactly like the recorded tracks... it needed more variation.
