This reminds me of the last time Stacey played at 177 Townsend (now gone in the wake of the ballpark redevelopment) -- he must be thinking this is what will go down with a big club crowd in San Francisco, because we know he's capable of playing so much better,
Stacey was also at a King St Garage event a while back (King St is also gone, it was attached to the back of 177 Townsend and had the most obnoxious bouncers I've ever seen), and played pretty well, but then Derrick May came up and played the most awful set of hard house. It's true, San Francisco used to have a much more discriminating club crowd, but I really wish the out-of-towners would challenge them more. It does happen from time to time -- at different times I heard Richie Hawtin and Kruder & Dorfmeister play quite good sets at 1015. But let's face it, things are really dire in Club Land these days. -- fred
