Hawtin says the recording, titled "9:20," features elements that should be familiar to fans of his adventurous electronic works. But it's also something of a departure for him -- a sculpted cinematic piece that he has called a "mini-movie." The song will be heard during the choreographed segment of the opening ceremonies, following the parade of nations and introduction of dignitaries.

Until a dress rehearsal Wednesday night, the entire piece was "all theoretical," envisioned by Hawtin only through Cosimi's verbal directions, pictures and diagrams. Mercifully, he says, his contribution to the work is pre-recorded so he can just sit back and watch the spectacle unfold once again today.
