I've started buying new vinyl again lately and its really fun. I
picked up this week:
DK7 - The Difference - Outputrecordings
Alex Alvires from Sole Channel played this here last night. The Out
Hud Remix is the sht. This is one of two drum machine workout tracks
that he played, which is almost shocking for a "deep house" dj in san
francisco. A sick wobbly modulating bass line, a 909 and some cheesy
vocals. The vocal bit is kind of cheesy but floor fulfilling.
Antennae 05 - Illinois Illuminated
This one has the other 909 track that I heard last night. It cleared
the floor but it was the wrong crowd for it really. The track was
Un-invited by Deecoy+James Cotton. Most of the James Cotton stuff
I've heard has been much less funky than this one so I was surprised
to find out he was responsible. Dirty machine funk ala work that
muthafcka but with a dark stabby synth and a disorienting acid bass.
Not too bad. Also, a minimal chi-town chugger of a ron hardy edit (?)
by DJ Traxx and Michael Mitchell. The other tracks are somewhat
uninspired. Some glitchy funk from Miles Maeda that doesn't really do
it for me and another lackluster tech-house track.
