I have the Iriver 340 its coming up to 3 years old now, it has a line/mic in for mp3 recording and I think you can record in a range of bit rates up to 320kbps or as wav. Seem to be really stable and hasn't ever crashed on me.
At the time it outperfomed many products on the market as it had radio, video playback and photo storage and didn't require any additional software like Itunes etc to connect to your pc.
