We had an impromptu 313 in 503 night last night -- Kate Simko
played at the Saucebox. They tried to reject me at the door due
to it being a "private party." My response was, dude, you just
don't understand, my office is two blocks from here and I went
to this joint the week it opened in 1995. Kate's playing inside
and ya gotta let me in. No dice.

Fortunately, Carlos Souffront came along (Carlos is actually in
town for a cheese conference, no kidding, he works for Zingerman's
you know :) and got us in.

It turned out the big secret deal was an after party for the Pearl
Jam/Sleater-Kinney concert down the street. Kate played a good
set for about an hour and a half, and when the concert aftermob
showed up we split and went over to Holocene and saw Tadd,
er, Dabrye laying down the beatz with Kadence on the mic and a
pretty decently large crowd for a Thursday night. They were
getting ready to drive down to San Francisco for their show which
is happening right now - that's a 10 hour drive, y'all. Anyway Tadd
was definitely feeling good about the tour (see www.dabrye.com)
but says the west coast has more mid-week turnout for some reason.
He also said they readily played a couple Dabrye tracks at a strip
joint he went into in Montana. We don't have any ghetto tech
club culture out here, it's usually strictly 80s arena rock or country :)

Guess I better get Carlos to come back to Portland more often,
this is more excitement than we've had in many months :)
