haha, same thing really, although personally i consider a desk or console to be of the larger more professional variety. sometimes a soundboard or mixer is so small it can hardly be called a "desk" - yes even the main one for a club PA. there are some small clubs here in NYC. the worst offense being a 7-channel mono powered yamaha mixer and more common being the mackie CR1604.
