Got one or two nice new pieces Friday including:
Carl Finlow : Count On It EP (7th Sign)
Lindström : Contemporary Fix (Feedelity) - don't always buy his
stuff, quite simple this but the "Serious Symptoms Version" has a
nice step-sequencey (?) synthetic sound.
I love when the banjo comes in, sure way to get some weird and funny
faces on the dancefloor in the late hours.
Soundhack : Love Jam / Makin' Love (Sound Stream) - ace!
This is probably my record of the year so far along with Melchior
Productions - Different Places on Perlon. No words to describe them,
just have a listen.
Quentin Harris : Haunted / House (URA) - another of those big club
type things, maybe a bit overly epic for some situations but fun
in others ;-)
Does a 4x4 kick ever come in in that 'Haunted' track? I love the
offbeat-ness (!) of it. I wasn't that much into the b-side though.
What's with the Sandstorms/Ame-esque ripoffs these days. And
everybody's calling it detroit house?
Luciano / Eat : Bla Bla / Mission Elevator (Diamonds & Pearls) -
I'm not sure how good this is but I couldn't resist it for the Eat
side which is a little bit mad insofar as it sets of on some
repetitive groove which is nice but wouldn't have made me buy it,
however halfway through it starts playing around, stopping and
starting and bringing different elements in then, near the end, it
gets back on a groove - but a different one. Not a classic vintage
but you may be tickled by it's presumption.
Got this too, but I prefer Luciano's track. Awesome hook, great
beats, detailed production, definitely stands out from all the other
minimal boredom.
Another couple of tracks/records I've been enjoying:
Melody Boy 2000 - Monotone Fantastique (Futuro): proper vintage techno!
A Squared - Perception (Moods & Grooves): a Mike Grant production I
think? Great new detroit house.
Soultourist - Yeah (DK Dub) (Drumpoet Community): probably in the
vein of the Ame-esque tracks mentioned above, but imo, this one's
very well done.
