He actually has a new track - it's a remodel, as opposed to a remix,
for some Japanese manga production and that should be out soon (maybe
check his myspace). He talks of it in the DJ Magazine article that
came out lately and is worth a read. I heard it before it was
finished and it was sounding great. He actually started the track
here in Melbourne (his Australian manager is a buddy of mine) so I
can humbly say I am a witness and, boy, Derrick can hit the
keyboards. I'm not sure what his concept is for the opera, I know
he's spoken (publicly) of it. I actually think 80 percent of all
artists talk of projects prematurely - it comes up in interviews I do
all the time. Partly the media encourages this, but we are only doing
what readers and fans want - prising scoop info on upcoming projects.
The only people who don't pre-empt projects in interviews are those
in the film world as everyone signs big contracts silencing them. ;)
I don't think Derrick is any different to a lot of artists.

And then there's the matter of what May says, versus what actually
happens. I'm not calling him a liar, just saying that he's a world
champion talker. Like Steve Jobs, he tends to generate his own reality

Not that I wouldn't welcome any new work by the man. I've thought a
lot about doing an arrangement of "Strings Of Life" for orchestra,
which could be really exciting. Even though May never studied
classical music, "Strings" has enough drama and variation to work well
as a concert piece.
But then I've been thinking about arranging "Strings" for a long time
and never done anything about it, so I shouldn't probably be dogging
May...

classical. Derrick May is a big listener of classical - and he's
working on that opera project I posted about a while ago. These kind
