Things that spin off from this one....... > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 07 February 2007 16:38 > > Can I add a vote for some old mixes as still being pretty amazing?
Absolutely - this thread was generally active while I was off on holiday so though I read it I couldn't participate. If I had been able to I'd probably said to those who were mystified by others who expressed the opinion that is recent remixes hadn't been up to his own high standards that while some of them may have been OK (Delia and Gavin) there haven't been any BT "Relativity"s or Incognito "Out Of The Storm"s for a while. I think Tom queried people "hating on C2 for being good"? I don't think people are hating on him, most people who said his recent stuff was a bit samey still said they'd bought quite a bit of it so that's not hating and the point is that he's not being "too good" but "not as good as usual". Amongst the goodies Tom and Ken quoted were "Angola", "Tides", "Hot On The Heels Of Love" and I don't think anyone (well C2 fans anyway!) would disagree these are hot but I don't think these are what people are picking up on as being recent, I think recent means Xpress2, Goldfrapp, Delia and Gavin, Falling Up, etc. (+ add Laurent Garnier) Of these ones Tom says "i just didnt buy because they werent very good, not because they sounded the same" but I'd tend to agree with others that there is commonality (repeat a simple piece of the original, after a while chuck in a distinctly electronic synth line and then some extra (probably kind of "clubby/conga?!") percussion near the end. I'm not saying they're all bad, I bought some and I'd also extend the description to his own "Brainfreeze" track - which I really like. I think we're all just saying there isn't the (wide) variety to his work there sometimes is at the moment. Let's hope for something that negates this argument completely very soon. > I was listening to last.fm yesterday and Carl's remix of > Spacetime Continuum's "Kairo" came on. Still one of my > favorite CC mixes ever! Yikes I don't know this one. Now I'm instantly desperate to hear or maybe get it. So Discogs tells me it's on a remixes EP called rEMIT rECAPS? Looked for a copy on GEMM but no joy, I'm guessing it's rare (on vinyl anyway). The only other thing I could see it on was Designer Music V1. I think that's CD only? Anyone know of anywhere else I might find it? mp3 anyone so I can decide whether to start an intensive and possibly expensive hunt? Maybe I'll get a rEMIT rECAPS CD so I can listen. (talking of Discogs, weirdness yesterday, I could only pull up a Carl Craig page that listed "Feel The Fire" plus 3 or 4 mixes as being the only thing he'd done. I thought "no good going on about it on 313 - it's a community, tell them". Today I only get the normal (MASSIVE) page and can't find that other!) Actually I think I'll follow this with another "C2 tracks I don't know" post.......................
