Sorry to hear about WDET. Iowa Public Radio has undergone a similar

They replaced a locally produced long running (since 1971) late night
Jazz show with the BBC World Service. No offense to BBC, which is
great in it's own way, but in public radio terms, BBC World Service is
the programming equivalent of a dial tone.

Same stuff just happened in Chicago, they killed the all night jazz
programming and replaced it with the usual NPR, BBC stuff, the worst
is that a fair amount was just repeat programming from shows that ran
earlier in the day!

The only reason I didn't mind so much, is that their jazz programming
was really crap, and already was since before I moved to Chicago in
2003. That was the fault of the radio station management and
individuals doing the shows. I've no doubt that the poor programming
in recent brought a decline in listeners, leading to the conclusion
that "people don't want jazz" when in reality, part of the problem was
they weren't playing good music.
