Not to put too fine a point on it, but unless you were gay and lived in a large city, the disco you got to hear back in the 'disco era' was only the cheesiest, most annoying tip of the iceberg. I refuse to be embarrassed by what I was listening to at the time -- funk, jazz, and early electronica -- but it's only after the fact that I've come to appreciate disco.
