Yeah - I picked up Colin's 'Abstract Funk Theory' compilation.
It's pretty nice - in a kinda melodic tech-housey/electro vane.
The Ian O'Brien track (Mad Mike Disease) is wicked, as are contributions
from Kevin Yost, Vince Watson - in fact they're all good apart from one....
erm it's called 'firefly' or something and it's really cheesy - quite
bemusing how someone with usually impeccable taste put it on there in the
first place.
I liked the 'Mutant Disco' compilation a lot (actually more), but in
comparison, the material on that was a lot more raw - the tracks on 'AFT'
are really polished sounding, production-wise.
I saw Colin DJ last Wednesday at Electrocuted in Brixton. He played a mainly
electro set (Hmmmm - I wonder why) but managed to work in Fix - 'Flash', and
'Blue Monday'. He also dropped that "It's The Weekend.." track from the
Direct Beat compilation that someone was slating on here a few months back.
Incidentally, I think it's a great track..... even on a Wednesday :-)
With regards to his mixing - He ain't a hot shot DJ technically, but as with
many, his track selection's what makes it - as you'll appreciate from his
radio shows. London's airwaves are certainly a poorer place without the man
Dale....
