i don't understand why all the new-school electro-pop gets so much
criticism
but so much new-school jazz/house/breaks, broken-beat-type stuff passes the
"quality" test. i know it all comes down to individual tastes, but it just
yeah, it's more "mature" so it must be better, right? ppptttt
bandwagon doesn't mean the music itself sucks. yes, yes, the whole fact
that
new york is getting all the attention when electro never really died in
detroit leaves a bit of a bad taste in our collective mouth. but this whole
wait, what's up with new york? somebody asked me about the burgeoning ny
electro scene (oh boy) the other day, and i was like..huhhhh? what electro
is coming from ny? i know selway, inform3r/katya (more indie/collegey than
electro these days?), and ultradyne are in ny...whats going on? :P
just rubbish. i had a lot more fun at the le tigre/chicks on speed show
last
weekend in san francisco than i've had at a straigh-up DJ event in quite a
while. fun is not the enemy!
ahh i'd say thids stuff is still basically rock made with electronics tho.
not electro except with apssing similarities..and not really my thing...too
much plain noise!
the felix da housecat record is about as straight-up retro as you can get -
he lifts whole riffs and hooks from bobby o and vanity 6! but it's as
and kano
melancholy and killer beats. is it somehowe more palatable just because
he's
from chicago and he's paid his purist house (maddkatt courtship, etc.)
it's more palatable to me because there is more house/techno oriented stuff
on there, amid some of the more chix/le tigre type stuff. i would not
consider the chix or le tigre to be house or techno or electro. chix come
pretty close i guess sometimes tho. but really its more like
indie-electronic-rock to me..whole different vibe
