One thing you may want to investigate, is how other people in your (new)
neighborhood like their DSL service. DSL speeds degrade with distance from
the central office, whereas cable modem speeds degrade based on the
bandwidth use on the network (a bit of an oversimplification), so if others
in your immediate neighborhood are happy with their DSL service, chances
are, you may be too.

So you guys know, everyone has incumbent telco (Verizon, Bell South, SBC
esp. Ameritech, Qwest) horror stories, in every one of the incumbent
regions. I've worked with all the regional Bell companies and I can assure
you, it's never a fun thing. Telecom in general is horrendous. Just
mentioning this in case people wanted to match up their regional telco
horror stories. It's useless. They all suck. :) And if you want to laugh
about all this, I highly recommend a silly movie called 'The President's
Analyst' with Montgomery Clift, which will confirm all your worst fears
about THE TELEPHONE COMPANY!
