True, but sometimes I have been fooled by the cover art / names of songs.
For the most part, you can see the artwork on a certain cd and tell if it
is 'minimal techno' -- (ie look at Robert Hood "Internal Empire", or DJ
T-1000 "A Pure Sonik evening"). But look at the cover of the recent Joey
Beltram mix cd (the one with the city at night) and you will think it is
good solid techno -- yet listen to it and you may be dissapointed. So I
thought that the JB cd would be cool (just think JB^3 "close grind",
right?) but artists are not always stable, and tend to change their sound
to the offence of their past listeners.

Moral: Always be careful.

It's funny though, you can kinda tell what something sounds like by a
mixture of covert art and song names.

For the 313: What do you think a *stereotypical* Detroit techno release
consists of in terms of cover art and song names.

My answer: It usually has blue metallic or electronic looking things on
the cover (why do I think BLUE when I think Detroit?), and the songs are
two words or less, like "Monument" or "Code Error" -- something like that.
