an adapter that drops ground will fix the hum problem.

Thats great info...I noticed after I asked the
question that I don't have a seperate booth, so my
secondary output is at the same volume my stereo
system is at.
Of course I have a clipping issue now: If I turn down
the output too much I can't hear it on the stereo to
mix with. I either need a new mixer or external sound
card...the mixer may be the better idea here, while
both would be optimal.
Thanks for the help. I think I have exhausted all my
options.

Recording directly to the laptop should be fine for
DJ sets but it
depends on the sound card, I've recorded directly
onto Dell Notebooks
and not had any problems. If you're getting a
hissing sound from the
recording, it can be caused by the power supply, if
the battery lasts
don't use the mains power.
Also there is an advantage on using the booth out as
a record, it
enables you to adjust the level from the mixer to
the notebook, some
mixers record out can be high and cause clipping,
just stick the booth
out at approx 50%, you can always increase the
volume with software
later.

probably so.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ is a quite good
open source audio
editor that's totally free with no limitations

I've had both success and complete and miserable
failure using the mic
in on one of my laptops.
You may not NEED a usb sound card, but it might be
desirable. Other
people probably have better moretechnical
information here.
> Should I hook up to line out or booth out?
that shouldn't really make a difference, i don't
think.
