Last week's Wild Kingdom playlist is at
http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=30125 . It was an all-vinyl
odds and sods affair.
This week's set kicks off my contribution to the fabulous KFJC "Month of
Mayhem". Since 1882, KFJC has set aside the month of May for music
specials, no matter how freaky. Cruise over to www.kfjc.org to see what
I mean. This week's program is called "The Sounds of Machines Our
Parents Used" (a tip of the hat to the Gescom 12" of the same name),
dealing with bands/projects/tracks named after syths, midi patches,
computers, plug-ins, modules, etc. (essentially, the tools of the
trade). I'd like to thank the folks on the 313 and IDM lists who
responded to my query of a few months back, providing some excellent
memory-joggers. Not everything got used, but then, the special is only 3
hours long. I think you'll find some interesting selections, anyway. I
bored through my library of thousands of randomly sorted 12"s and found
a lot of surprises.
Next week's show kicks off a 3-part special on all things acid, starting
with Chicago acid house, and proceeding to its mutations/permutations
throughout the world - Acieeeeed! I'll also be participating in the KFJC
"Day of Dub" and "Day and Night of the Sun", as well as hosting a fun
special called "With Malice Aforethought" dealing with covers/remixes
that dump on the original.
"The Wild Kingdom" airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Saturday night/Sunday
Morning, 12A-3A (7A-10A GMT). The webcast is at www.kfjc.org (follow the
links). Present and past Wild Kingdom playlists are also archived there.
You can also check out archived playlists from my first KFJC show "Just
Desserts" that aired on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through 1999. Archived
playlists exist for that show starting from Fall 1995 to New Year's Eve
1999/2000.
If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to
let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promo music from all
over and in promoting local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events.
If you want to do some fairly serious promotion, contact the KFJC
promotions department at [EMAIL PROTECTED] to arrange ticket giveaways
and/or to send information for inclusion in our concert outlook. Thanks
to those who have sent promo music so far.
Regards,
Richard Hester
