yes, a lot of people have tried to pin down the cycle of retro music
revitalization.  i don't think it's quite as cut and dried as you're
claiming, but i'm not exactly sure how you mean.  can you give
examples?

in general pop culture, especially television, the standard seems to
be about 20 years difference

examples:

happy days  set in the 50s televised in the 70s
the wonder years   set in 68-73 televised from 88-93
that 70s show    set in 76-79 televised from  98-06
freaks and geeks  set in 80 televised in 99

things aren't quite as clear in electronic music, but it does make
sense that in 2008 people are playing a lot of tracks from the late
80s early 90s.  also, the pop "80s night" trend of the early 00s has
clearly passed.
